Emerald Headed Mallard

I was out today around the by the Blue Water bridge and there was a large gathering. Mostly of Gulls a handful of Mallards and two Canadian Geese. I was able to get some half decent shots off but the grass is so dull and lifeless. It was a chance to gain some experience in trying to everything as sharp as I could. I used the 75 - 300mm zoom all the way out, hand held, which was difficult. Being cold though I think it slowed them down a bit which helped.

This is also what I submitted to Indecent Exposure's contest this week. Hope they like it.

Pool Lessons

Pool Lessons, originally uploaded by k.l.macke.

First day at swimming lessons and she wasn't sure about it all. She had gone in the past and loves to swim, but just not the lessons. After she was completely OK with them. Maybe it was the brand new pool or she finally felt confident.

Taken with a 75-300mm, at f5.0, 1/320sec, 200mm

Unicorn

Unicorn, originally uploaded by k.l.macke.

A couple of years ago we went to Bay City for the festival of tall ships. All the ships where so tightly docked it was hard to get good overall shots. I tried some different ways to get what I liked.

The Unicorn is a ship for young girls as a learning and teaching tool. They earn a lot of experience working on the ship. What a great summer vacation.

Winter Storm

Winter Storm, originally uploaded by k.l.macke.

One morning I woke up to a massive snow fall blanketed Port Huron. Which does not happen here very often because of where we are located. Port Huron sits at the base of lake Huron and just west of Sarina Canada. Most snow and bad weather will bypass us and head straight for Canada.

The snow was so thick and heavy it covered it all. It seamed to transform it all into a black and white image. I love it when it's like this!

U.P. Lake

U.P. Lake, originally uploaded by k.l.macke.

I know I know it's been a long time and I feel bad about it. I wanted to do this a lot more regularly but I failed and maybe I can pick it up a bit.

I was digging around the basement and found some of my old photos that I had shot with a Canon EOS Rebel 35mm. So I thought why not scan them in and try a little Photoshop on them. I recently picked up a copy of Photoshop Elements 7 and I like most everything about it. I had the full Photoshop 7 before and I don't think I will miss much on the scaled down version here.

This was an image of a lake (I don't remember where for sure) in the upper peninsula of Michigan a few years back. Just one of those great misty, foggy days. It was so peaceful out there with no one around for miles. I would like to go back and do that again someday.

Last Nights

Last Nights, originally uploaded by k.l.macke.

Sometimes when you need a little inspiration one does not have to walk far. Tonight, desperate because it has been to long, I wanted to take some photos but had a lack of options. It was to snowy outside so inside would have to do. I thought I would get a little close or as close as I could. Thus found myself gazing at the dishes in the drain wondering what I could do. This was the result not a great photo but just trying to convey a need I had to shoot something.

I think this girl has a wonderful eye for life around her and captures it very well.

08/08/2008 - Going Somewhere

Thought I would pick one that I like a lot. This was taken at Denver International Airport when I was coming back home. It was also Flickr's 888 day ( Aug 8, 08). The three just waiting around just like most everybody else that day deep into what they where doing. I think that the cowboy hat set the image that Denver is not just a place cowboys but a place for people who want to be cowboys.

Now I just need to remove that pesky window bar.

From Canada (Fixed)

From Canada (Fixed), originally uploaded by k.l.macke.

This morning the fog was really thick. So I wet out to the bridge. Just love to see it this way all mysterious and beautiful. Took some shots but it was hard as the fog was so thick. Hard to believe that it was the end of December and almost 50* out, no coat needed today.

Found some dust on the image and removed it. It does look better. I should be more careful as to what I put up and make sure it is good and done.

Into the fog

Into the fog, originally uploaded by k.l.macke.

This was the first trip to Maine that we took. I was not sure what to expect from it except the smell of seafood (which after the 3rd day was overwhelming), lobster rolls at almost every corner and maybe a carved wooden fisherman in a yellow slicker. We went late in the year which was good and bad. Less people about but the weather was less cooperative, fog almost every morning. We wanted to go out to see whales and other animals on one of those cruises. The boat that we where to go on may not even head out because of the fog. We did go however, needless to say it did not go well. Two of us got very sick and Emily was disappointed as we did not see any whales, but we did see a few animals. Acadia National Park was great to see. the beaches and lighthouses just amazing. I need to go back though it was good trip and next time it will be even better.
